Southampton to battle with Everton for Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Winks
According to Football.London, Southampton are currently engaged in a battle with Everton for the services of Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Winks ahead of the next season. His future is up in the air at this moment, having failed to earn regular minutes under Antonio Conte in the previous campaign.
Winks is believed to be in line to leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window. That is especially the case if they sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion. The Times recently claimed that both clubs reached an agreement over Bissouma’s sale, which could spell the end of the road for the academy graduate.
Now, the Saints and the Toffees have expressed their interest in securing Winks’ signature this summer. That would certainly favour Spurs as it could potentially lead to a bidding war if both parties actively pursue the central midfielder before the transfer window closes down.
Best situation for Spurs?
The England international had all the opportunities to impress Conte last season, which he failed to take advantage of, leading to this situation. That is especially the case after Oliver Skipp suffered a long-term injury in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign.
In fact, there was a time when Rodrigo Bentancur was also out of contention, but Winks could not make use of the chances that he received during that period. Now that we are seemingly nearing a move for Bissouma as well, perhaps the latter could be leaving North London after all.
It is quite difficult to see one of the academy graduates failing to reach the heights he was expected to achieve in the past. But it is the right decision to let WInks go considering how we must look forward and raise our standards to give us a genuine chance of winning titles.

The interest from Frank Lampard’s side and Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team would give us the best chance to earn a solid sum through the 26-year-old’s sale. Interestingly enough, it is stated that Southampton’s pursuit of Winks depends on James Ward-Prowse’s future which could be of interest to Conte’s side.
After all, it has recently been claimed that we have plotted a move for Ward-Prowse, so whether a potential swap deal could be on the cards or not remains to be seen. We also have to keep in mind how Bissouma may join us, so it will be interesting to see how that plays a role in our pursuit of the other targets.
