Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough are still not on same page over Djed Spence transfer fee
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough are still not on the same page regarding the fee required to finalise a transfer for Djed Spence. He has emerged to become one of the best young full-backs in England following his impressive loan spell with Nottingham Forest last season.
Spence was sent out on loan to Forest in the previous campaign after falling out of favour with Neil Warnock due to Isaiah Jones’ rise in form. However, the former has performed well since then, having helped the Reds achieve promotion to the Premier League through playoff finals.
Tottenham have been searching the market for a right wing-back, and they have identified Spence as an option to bolster their squad. They are keen to sign the English starlet and have held talks with Boro regarding a potential move ahead of the next season. However, both clubs have not agreed to an amount, although it is expected that a deal will be signed shortly.
Spence, the right addition?
Warnock’s side are looking to raise a sum in the region between £15million and £20million through the 21-year-old’s sale. However, the London-based club are only willing to spend a fee of around £10million up front, which is the cause of the difference right now.
If that is the case, perhaps we could find common ground with the Championship side by including add-ons that can be met if the Boro ace meets certain targets in the future. That would be beneficial in the best interest of all the parties, but whether such terms can be agreed upon or not remains to be seen.
Since Spence is in line to join us this summer, it would mean that Emerson Royal would be leaving N17 after a difficult first season with us. The latter did impress towards the tail end of the previous campaign, but it looks like that may not be enough to salvage his spell in North London.
In fact, Spurs would accept offers for Emerson this summer which should paint a clear picture of what lies in store for us moving forward. Matt Doherty had impressed quite well before he ran into an unfortunate injury, so there is no reason to part ways with him which has forced the Brazilian into this situation.

Spence, who possesses vast potential, would be an excellent signing for us as he seems ready to take on the big guns in the future. After all, his performances against Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester City should indicate that is the case, so it would be best to find an agreement with Boro at the earliest.
The fans are hoping to see that happen as they look to enjoy a better season under Antonio Conte moving forward. Perhaps Spence could play a major role in helping us win a silverware that we have been yearning for quite a long time.
