Tottenham Hotspur agree to terms with Brighton for Yves Bissouma
According to The Times (Subscription Required), Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement over a move for Yves Bissouma in the summer transfer window. His arrival would undoubtedly be a massive boost for Antonio Conte’s side in their attempt to finally put up a solid title challenge.
Tottenham had tried to sign Bissouma last January, but they failed in their advances in the end. Now, they have rekindled their interest in the midfielder and seem to be in line to finally get their hands on him this summer. They have agreed to pay around £25million for him with his current contract expiring after 12 months.
There is a belief among those at Spurs that they can also reach common ground with the Malian international over personal terms. Furthermore, it is stated that a medical could take place as soon as this week which would potentially make him their third signing in the summer transfer window.
Spurs to finally succeed in Bissouma pursuit?
Following the departures of Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele in the winter transfer window, we failed to fully replace them, having just brought in Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus. That has seriously reduced our depth in midfield which is not ideal, especially in a long campaign.
Lo Celso and Ndombele have returned from their respective loan spells, but since they were allowed to leave in the first place, they may not have a future under Antonio Conte after all. Furthermore, there are question marks over Harry Winks, considering how he struggled to get game time even though Oliver Skipp was out of contention for a large part of last season.
That seriously increased the need to make additions in the centre of the pitch when the Champions League adds to the challenges that lie ahead for us in the upcoming campaign. Bissouma would undoubtedly be a great option to solve our problems in such a case, but whether an agreement can now be reached with him or not remains to be seen.
Now that the North London club have overcome the challenge of agreeing to terms with Brighton and Hove Albion, the only thing that is left is to convince the 25-year-old about teaming up with Conte for the upcoming season.

Fabio Paratici seems to have done a great deal for us, looking at the amount we are set to pay for the Seagulls ace. Bissouma’s contract with Graham Potter’s side is up after the next campaign, so we have used that to our advantage and made a reasonable deal with them, going by this update.
However, we need to be wary of potential competition, as a transfer is yet to be finalised. The likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Arsenal have targeted Bissouma in the past, so perhaps they may just decide to reignite their interest for the same reason that Conte’s side did right now.
Hence, it would be best to reach an agreement at the earliest so that we can prevent any potential setbacks that could occur along these lines.
