Paulo Dybala is set to sign a four-year contract with Inter Milan after rejecting Tottenham Hotspur
According to the Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Sun), Paulo Dybala is set to sign a four-year contract with Inter Milan shortly in a transfer blow to Tottenham Hotspur. He will be leaving Juventus on a free transfer as his current contract expires at the end of this month.
Tottenham have been in the mix to sign Dybala alongside Manchester United and Arsenal this summer. However, he has agreed to join Inter despite being Juve’s direct rival as his mother played an influential part in making him take this decision by remaining in Italy.
It is believed that the Argentine will sign a new contract with the Nerazzurri soon that will see him earn around £5million per annum for the next four years. Supposedly, he is not entertained by the idea of joining Spurs, so pursuing him would not have mattered anyway.
Not a concern for Spurs?
Perhaps it is for the best that the 28-year-old is nearing a switch to Giuseppe Meazza as his salary demands have already been claimed to be out of our reach. While the prospect of signing Dybala on a free transfer is quite attractive indeed, it should not come at the cost of breaking our wage structure.
There is no doubt that the Serie A ace is a world-class player, but his profile may not be the right fit for our current system. Being a number ten in trade, he is naturally used on the right-hand side of the attack, where he can cut inside and play in his best position.
The South American’s best displays have come in that role, but we are already covered quite well in that area, considering how Dejan Kulusevksi and Lucas Moura are competing with each other. Fabio Paratici also believes that is the case, so perhaps it is good that Dybala is not joining us after all.
That’s not all, as Dybala has seen himself get injured quite often in recent years. That was the case last campaign as well, which adds to the list of reasons why he may not have been the right option for Conte’s exciting project.

After all, signing an injury-prone player on high wages is the last thing we want, especially with the demanding tactics that the boss imposed on his squad. Fortunately, our direct rivals, Man United and the Gunners, are not getting Dybala either, which favours us even further at this point.
The attack is an area that needs reinforcements, considering how we do not have a backup for Harry Kane in our team. In such a case, it would be wise to fixate on solving that at first, as we cannot afford to go another full season with just Kane as our only centre-forward option.
