Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur maintain interest in Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have maintained their interest in signing Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni on a potential transfer this summer. It seems that the former still hopes that a move can be facilitated for the defender despite the setbacks they have suffered in this pursuit.
Antonio Conte has asked Tottenham to sign two new centre-backs in the summer transfer window. He wants to bolster their defensive ranks to improve their chances of enjoying a successful second season. He is a keen admirer of Bastoni and wants the centre-back at N17, but that could be difficult at the moment.
Bastoni is eager to stay with Inter beyond this summer which has dealt a damning blow to Spurs and their chances of securing his services. Furthermore, the Serie A club is looking to part ways with other players in their squad to cope with the financial difficulty. Despite that, the English side remains hopeful and is interested in the central defender even now.
Not the best decision
It would be in our best interest if we just keep tabs on the Italian international situation in Milan and his side’s financial crisis at this point. After all, actively chasing the defender would be a waste of time and effort now that we have clear indications about his desire to stay in Italy.
Furthermore, the Nerazzurri are looking at other routes to maintain their books of accounts which may potentially indicate their intention to keep hold of the 23-year-old. As such, it would be wise to just monitor the situation to see if any drastic changes occur in the future.
It is not like we have no other options on our centre-back shortlist, so going down this route should not affect us right now. Being reasonable with our transfer plans would ensure that we can be efficient in making potential signings this summer.
Bastoni made his breakthrough at the Milan-based club under Conte, and reuniting them together would have massively improved our backline ahead of the next campaign. However, we must accept the reality of the situation and look at alternatives as soon as possible.
It will be interesting to see whom we can sign from the current shortlisted options. RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol, Pau Torres of Villarreal, Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, Gleison Bremer from Torino, Barcelona ace Clement Lenglet and 19-year-old Ukraine international centre-back Ilya Zabarnyi are the choices that lie ahead of us right now.

Let’s hope that Fabio Paratici and co can sign at least one well-established centre-half as it would greatly help to phase out Ben Davies from the starting lineup. Davies is not a natural option, plus it is always good to have someone who has played in that role regularly.
