Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur have the upper hand in Victor Osimhen race
In a conversation with CalcioMercato (h/t The Sun), journalist Lorenzo Amuso stated that Tottenham Hotspur have an advantage in recruiting Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United this summer.
Victor Osimhen was one of the top names on many Premier League teams’ lips coming into the summer transfer season. The Nigerian striker’s playing style may appeal to English clubs, and his goal-scoring record justifies a large expenditure.
Arsenal is interested in signing Osimhen to replace Alexandre Lacazette, who just returned to Olympic Lyon in France. The Gunners’ original £51 million offer was turned down by Napoli last week, and they are now planning a world-record £86 million deal to sign the Nigerian.
Manchester United have also been awarded a transfer interest. Having offloaded some crucial players in the ongoing window, Eric Ten Hag might want to start fresh with some quality signings in order to have a great start to the season.
The striker’s valuation by Napoli has been the biggest stumbling block for any move. The Partenopeans want €100 million to €110 million for Osimhen, whom they purchased from Lille for £67.5million in 2020.
Tottenham may be able to take advantage of Arsenal and Manchester United’s hesitation in signing Osimhen. It is believed that the North Londoners have an advantage over their opponents because they will compete in the Champions League next season.
However, it is also said that without the departure of a major player, it would be difficult for Tottenham to spend €100 million.
The Nigerian has developed into one of the top centre-forwards in the world and is now among the best. Perhaps the Serie A attacker could have done even better had it not been for an injury that halted his season’s pace.
Given that we only have Harry Kane as a centre-forward option, we need to focus on that position this summer.

Not to mention that the England captain would require appropriate rest in order to maintain his fitness in the latter stages of the tournament. However, in order for us to sign Osimhen, Fabio Paratici must overcome a number of challenges.
We face stiff competition in the future, with two other Premier League clubs pushing for Osimhen’s signing. That’s not even taking into account the astronomically high price tag, which is likely the largest hurdle because paying that much money would completely deplete our finances.
