Spurs want Lautaro Martinez.

Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur preparing their improved bid for Lautaro Martinez

According to Italian football journalist Alfredo Pedulla (h/t Football.London), Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to put Inter Milan’s resolve to keep Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez to the test by making another lucrative bid this summer.

The north London giants have been monitoring the Argentine striker for some months and are ready to step up their pursuit. After failing to sign the Argentinian for £60million in the previous summer window, they are expected to up their offer to £77million.

Martinez previously worked with Antonio Conte at San Siro during a successful two-year period in which Martinez helped Inter Milan win Serie A in the 2020/21 season. The Tottenham manager is keen to fight for major honours next season with the Lilywhites and is said to be ‘crazy’ about adding Martinez to his offensive ranks.

]Inter are interested in bringing Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku back to the club and have begun talks about a possible loan deal. If they are successful in reuniting with the Belgian, they may be willing to let Martinez go.

However, Martinez is said to be happy at Inter Milan, where he has been since joining the club in 2018 from the Argentinian team Racing. In 180 games the striker has scored 74 goals for the Nerazzurri.

One may argue that Conte could adjust his tactics and repeat what he did with Romelu Lukaku and Martinez at Giuseppe Meazza. However, rearranging the frontline now would be counterproductive, given Kane’s good synergy with Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski.

We definitely need a backup option for Kane in the team, but Martinez should not be expected to play second fiddle. As a result, if we lose our English talisman, signing the Argentinian centre-forward may look more rational.

Conte, on the other hand, should not be overlooked. If he wants to team Kane with Lautaro, he could do so. We couldn’t afford to lose Son, but young Kulusevski can play a more secondary role for the time being.

It is never a bad idea to have talented forwards fighting for minutes. One injury to Kane can derail our campaign so having Lautaro as his partner and even a potential backup is a plan that would appeal to the majority of Spurs fans.
