PSG table second transfer bid for Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest

According to the Italian sources (h/t The Sun), PSG have placed a second bid for Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur for a potential transfer. He could be in line to leave Giuseppe Meazza this summer with his side looking to sell one of their defenders, having already lined up a replacement.

Skriniar is ready to entertain approaches from elsewhere despite having agreed to terms with Inter over a renewal. He will see his current contract expire in 2023, which has put him on the radar of several clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham and Chelsea. However, the French side are in the pole position to sign him right now.

The Ligue 1 champions have seen their £43million opening offer rejected by the Nerazzurri. The former have improved their bid with a guaranteed £43million alongside £4.3million in bonuses. While Inter are demanding £68million for the Slovakian’s services, it is thought that they would accept a proposal of around £50million due to his contract situation.

Spurs facing a losing battle?

It is in our best interests if we would search for other targets, even though signing Skriniar would have been a massive addition to our backline. Our starting trio in the three-man backline included Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and Eric Dier last season.

Davies is not a natural central defender, which has caused issues at times for us, like our struggles when defending set-pieces. In such a case, there is a need to bring in a top-quality centre-half, and Skriniar would have been a perfect target for us.

However, spending such a ridiculous amount for someone who is in line to enter the final year of his contract is not wise at all. PSG are quite well known for their financial might, so we cannot expect to battle against them on that front.

Hence, it would be best if we admit defeat and pursue other targets that are more achievable and feasible for our transfer budget. That being said, if PSG do sign Skriniar, it is unlikely that the Italian side would sell Alessandro Bastoni, who is also on our shortlist alongside the Blues.

After all, Inter CEO Beppe Marotta only suggested that they would sell one of their defenders this summer. Hence, Skriniar’s potential exit would essentially rule Bastoni out of our hands in this situation.

Torino’s Gleison Bremer is also one of our potential options, but the Italian club are looking to target him if they lose one of their centre-backs. That means we are dealing with several concerns on many fronts, so it will be interesting to see how this would play out moving forward.
