Transfer news: Bryan Gil could leave Tottenham Hotspur as Marseille show interest
Tottenham Hotspur winger, Bryan Gil could leave the club this summer with French side Olympique Marseille interested in him. This is according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who claims that OM want to sign the youngster ‘but only at their conditions’.
Gil spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia. And now the out-of-favour winger could be on his way to France, as he has been shortlisted by Marseille.
The Spanish winger joined Spurs in 2021 from Sevilla in a swap deal involving Erik Lamela. Tottenham also had to pay an additional €25million to secure his signature.
But the Spanish international failed to replicate his La Liga form and was loaned out in the second half of the season. And now the player could again be on his way to another club, with Romano claiming a few days back that OM are exploring a loan deal for him.
So what next?
He started off well at the Mestalla, but a hip injury hampered his growth. Gil made a total of 17 appearances for Los Che and could muster up only one assist and failed to find the back of the net.
The 21-year-old could again leave this summer if Antonio Conte does not give him his trust again. But that should not necessarily be the way. He had a decent loan, which was hampered by a hip injury and he has still managed to gain attention from different clubs.
Conte should not be in a hurry to get rid of him permanently and a loan spell makes sense for him. Those that have seen the Spaniard in action for Spurs would know that he isn’t the strongest player in possession.
It would be wise to include Gil in the pre-season squad and should be given a chance to prove himself. After all, Tottenham did spend some huge bucks to get his signature and fans would want to see what the youngster has to offer as soon as they can.
It remains to be seen what happens with the 21-year-old. It would be wise to send him on a loan to help regain his form and France could be a good location for him to go and gain some vital experience but Spurs must be wise not to be held hostage by OM- who apparently want a deal for Gil on their conditions.

But then again, Spurs fans would perhaps want to see a bit of him before he is loaned out yet again, especially with Steven Bergwijn closing in on a move to Ajax. It’s a big call when it comes to Gil’s future and hopefully, Conte makes the right decision.
