Report: Sandro Tonali and Bryan Cristante are both on Tottenham’s shortlist
Tottenham Hotspur’s managing director, Fabio Paratici met agent Giuseppe Riso in Italy yesterday, according to Football.London. Riso represents several clients including Sandro Tonali and Bryan Cristante.
Spurs have been linked with these two defensive midfielders in the past as Antonio Conte prepares a squad to challenge for some silverware. However, it is unclear whether the players were discussed in the meeting.
Conte has been revamping the squad this summer after his side clinched a fourth-place finish on the last day of the season beating arch-rivals Arsenal for the position.
Tonali won the Scudetto with AC Milan last season while Cristante helped his AS Roma side to clinch sixth position and qualify for the UEFA Europa League next season.
A potential new signing?
Although it is still unclear whether Paratici met Riso to talk about his clients or just casually, it has raised the question of a potential new signing. Spurs have been very active in the market this summer, having already signed Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Fraser Forster.
They are also linked with Leeds United’s Raphinha and Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence. And now, Paratici meeting Riso has raised some eyebrows.
However, it would be a surprise if Spurs sign a new central midfielder. They already have Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks.
Four midfielders should be enough for Conte’s 3-4-3 style of play. With Bissouma’s signature, the need for a defensive-midfielder has been solved. However, one never knows what may happen.
It remains to be seen what the meeting was all about. Maybe Paratici met the agent to talk about a future transfer, if not for this summer. However, it will be advisable to Spurs fans to not get their expectations high about this particular meeting.
