Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix denies transfer links to Tottenham Hotspur
Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix has firmly turned down the links that touted him with a potential transfer move to Tottenham Hotspur. This admission would essentially end all the talks regarding his future despite the uncertainty surrounding him at this moment.
Felix was recently tipped to be involved in an exchange deal that included Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight. Diego Simeone had supposedly put the former in the market and is a fan of Lo Celso’s talents. That paved the way for a potential swap move, which has now been denied by the attacker.
Speaking in an interview with Maisfutebol (h/t The Express), Felix has made it clear that he plans to stay at Wanda Metropolitano beyond this summer. The Portuguese international further revealed his feelings regarding his future prospects while conveying that he is content with his current situation.
“A departure from Atletico is not on the table. I’m fine and focused on Atletico. I am calm about the future [and] aware of what I can do, and I’m good with myself.”
Blow for Spurs?
Antonio Conte is looking to bring in reinforcements this summer, with the forward areas being one such position that falls into that category. Felix would have been a great option to improve the quality of our attack, especially if we hope to take on the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, for example.
Felix’s versatility to be utilised in a host of roles in the attacking department would have made him a great prospect for us. After all, Steven Bergwijn looks set to leave N17 this summer, while Harry Kane does not have someone who can back him up in our team.
In such a situation, Felix would have helped us while also assisting in parting ways with Lo Celso in the process. Conte had allowed the latter to leave on loan to Villarreal back in January, so it would not be too much of a reach to say that the central midfielder is no longer in the boss’s plans.
That could explain why Conte may be open to a swap deal between Felix and Lo Celso this summer. However, that is no longer on the cards after the attacker’s revelation, so we must look elsewhere to meet our needs at this point.
In any case, we do have some cover to deal with the setback dealt by the 22-year-old forward. Richarlison of Everton is one of the options who can play on the wings and as a striker, albeit not possessing Felix’s qualities to the same extent.

In any case, we just need a second fiddle to back up Son Heung-Min and Kane, so perhaps Richarlison would be the better option after all. As for Lo Celso, we could look to facilitate a separate deal with Atletico and try to meet our £17million valuation.
