Andros Townsend urges Tottenham honcho Daniel Levy to sign Djed Spence
According to Teesside Live, star Andros Townsend has put pressure on Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy to complete the signing of Djed Spence. He is joined by his ex-team-mate Jamie O’Hara who is also pressing the Spurs chairman to complete the transfer.
Spurs have been linked with Middlesbrough’s right-back Djed Spence, since the beginning of the summer transfer window. Spence, who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League via the league play-offs.
The England U-21 star made a total of 50 appearances for Forest, scoring thrice and assisting five times in the process. He caught the eye of Antonio Conte who has been revamping his squad for next season.
It was reported that Levy is personally handling the negotiations involving Spence. And now ex-player Townsend has urged his chairman to conclude the deal.
“I think Djed Spence is the key one. In the past, this would be the transfer fee that Daniel Levy would drag out until deadline day. I think it’s been reported that Spurs are way off Middlesbrough’s valuation, so this is the one if he really wants to back Conte. If he really has changed and gets this done within the next few weeks, then it gives Conte his man for the whole of pre-season.”

The deal to finally conclude?
Tottenham would love for this deal to conclude as soon as possible. His arrival would give the player enough time to settle in and adjust to Conte’s system. This would also enable Conte to use him during the pre-season, where the manager can assess Spence’s ability.
Middlesbrough want to cash in as much as possible, as they have given up hope to retain the player for next season. The Boros want at least £15 million-plus add-ons, meanwhile, Spurs believe his worth to be in excess of £10 million.
Such a difference in valuation has currently left both the parties unsatisfied and no agreement could be reached last time out. Levy is known to be a tough person to negotiate with, and this could turn out to be the case again this time.
But if the Boro are unwilling to negotiate, Spurs could look to the option of ending their interest in the young right-back. They would have to look for an alternative as Conte does not appear to fully trust Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal. This could then again prove to be a headache for the club.
