Transfer News: Everton have ‘cooled’ their interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks
According to i newspaper (h/t football.london), Everton have “cooled” their interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks. The English midfielder has been touted for a move away to Goodison, but it seems the Toffees are not so keen on signing him anymore.
There was speculation that Winks could be a part of the Richarlison deal. But now, Frank Lampard is focused on other transfer targets, including ex-Spurs man Christian Eriksen.
Tottenham look to go into the next season stacked as the hierarchy has backed Antonio Conte up until now. The Italian manager has seen many signings come through the door since January.
The dilemma with Winks at Spurs
New additions in the midfield under Conte include Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma. The Uruguayan has gone straight into the team since he arrived in the winter transfer window. As for Bissouma, Tottenham have spent big money on the player.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is another player fans have taken to heart since his arrival. The midfield rock has been a disruptor for opposition attacks. The 26-year-old has been a mainstay in the team since joining from Southampton in 2020.
The midfield includes other youngsters such as Oliver Skipp and Pepe Matar Sarr, who will look to impress the Italian manager during the pre-season. But it remains to be seen what the club decides about their futures. Tanguy Ndombele has also returned but seems to have no place in the side.
Winks has been part of the first team since making his debut in 2014. The youth-academy product has been in and around the team for several years now but hasn’t been able to break into Spurs’ starting 11 regularly.
Now 26, going into next season, there still isn’t any indication whether the Englishman, who has played over 200 games for the club, will get regular game time. But Tottenham could still do with a player of Winks’ experience.
