Tottenham Hotspur could offer Giovani Lo Celso in a swap deal for Pau Torres
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t The Express), Villarreal are interested in signing Giovani Lo Celso permanently from Tottenham Hotspur. Archie Griggs of The Express believes Spurs could in turn complete a swap deal using the Argentinian to bring in Pau Torres.
The Argentinean player initially joined Spurs on a temporary basis in 2019, but later the move was made permanent. Lo Celso was acquired by the North Londoners from Real Betis for £27.2million after completing a six-month loan spell. But sadly, things haven’t gone as planned for them.
Lo Celso was shipped to Villarreal last season and he has played 950 total La Liga minutes over 15 games while on loan at the Spanish club. He contributed one assist to the team’s goal and one goal throughout that time.
Now it is believed that Lo Celso, who the Spanish outfit is reportedly interested in signing on a permanent basis before the 2019 season, could be included in a swap deal for Pau Torres that would benefit Tottenham.
Throughout the course of this summer, the north London outfit has already added several new players. Djed Spence, who recently completed his transfer from Middlesbrough, is the most recent to join the team.
With only Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez, and Eric Dier being the team’s preferred defenders, Antoni Conte is in serious need of a new defender. Although the Italian has young defenders like Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga at his disposal, he does not favour them.
Tottenham would show other elite Premier League teams that they mean business in the upcoming season by signing Torres. He would be a good starting option for Conte in his three-at-the-back system given his age, skill level, and experience playing in Spain.
