Djed Spence has completed his Tottenham Hotspur medical
Djed Spence will be announced as a new Tottenham Hotspur player soon as the 21-year-old has already completed his medical. According to football.london, the only formality left for him to be unveiled as a Spurs star is paperwork.
The full-back has also undertaken his media duties. Spence’s announcement is expected to be made sometime this week as he completes a much-awaited move from Middlesbrough.
The final fee is expected to be £12.5 million plus another £7.5 million in potential add-ons. Boro and Spurs have been engaged in negotiations for a while now.
Considering the current market, fans will feel it’s a good deal overall for a prospect who tore up the Championship last season. The only doubt will be whether Spence can continue in the same vein in English football’s first tier.
This signing is set to be Tottenham’s sixth this summer. Antonio Conte has requested players and gotten them. The board have been astute in doing their business during this transfer window.
The 21-year-old has flourished playing as a wing-back for Nottingham Forest. He was one of the best players in the Championship. Conte’s system seems to be the right fit for the youngster.
But it remains to be seen how regularly the Italian uses Spence. Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty are still at the club. Conte has also used Lucas Moura as a wing-back during the pre-season.
With this in mind, it’s uncertain whether the 21-year-old will make it into the XI straightaway. The Italian has a lot of options at his disposal and only the opening few weeks of the season can give an indication of what Conte’s plan may be.
