Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Nicolò Zaniolo from AS Roma
According to InsideFutbol (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur are keen to land AS Roma attacker Nicolò Zaniolo this summer.
Spurs, who have already committed Antonio Conte’s immediate future to the club and invested £150 million in transfers this summer, are looking to bolster their roster significantly now that they have qualified for the Champions League. Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, and Yves Bissouma among others have already been signed but our transfer activity might be far from over.
Now it is believed that the North London team are interested in signing Zaniolo from Roma. However, in order to do that they have to offload some players first with Tanguy Ndombele and Lucas Moura named as possibilities.
Even though Ndombele could be close to an exit, there is no indication that Moura could be on his way out. Zaniolo turned 23 at the beginning of July, but during the course of his brief career, he has already sustained two ACL injuries.
In spite of missing the entire 2020–21 season, he played 42 times for Roma’s most recent campaign and netted eight goals, including the game-winning goal against Feyenoord in the Europa Conference League final in May.
Zaniolo also demonstrated impressive skill when filling in at various places for Mourinho during the previous season. Although the former is a right winger by trade, the former Tottenham manager mostly deployed him as an offensive midfielder.
The young Italian could turn into a tremendous asset for Conte if he joins us as the celebrated Azzurri manager has a track record of getting the best out of his players. More so, Zaniolo could also be part of a trend-setting Spurs side that could launch a serious assault for silverware.
However, Roma may place a high value on Zaniolo after he had a strong comeback season after a difficult couple of seasons due to injury issues.

Spurs may find the price to be unappealing considering his history of injuries, particularly now that they have already gone big this summer,
Having said that, we must wait to determine whether a transfer is feasible. Whether Conte will be keen to further reinforce his attack or seek to add to the roster elsewhere remains to be seen.
