Transfer News: Move to MLS ‘ruled out’ for in-demand Tottenham target Jesse Lingard
Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Jesse Lingard is expected to take a decision on his future before Friday, according to ESPN.
It is claimed that Lingard has an offer on the table from a club in Saudi Arabia, but a move to MLS has been ‘ruled out’. Spurs have been linked with the Englishman, but they are not the only Premier League team after him.
West Ham United, Everton, and Nottingham Forest are all circling the midfielder released by Manchester United last month. Having been on the Red Devils’ books throughout the duration of his senior playing career, Lingard’s next destination must be chosen carefully.
He had a great loan spell at the Hammers towards the end of the 2020/21 season, but it bore no fruit as he continued to warm the bench for the Red Devils in the last campaign. Hence, it is understandable that the player is taking time to decide on his future.
Does the move make sense for Spurs?
Spurs have made several signings this summer, but none have been natural attacking midfielders so far. Richarlison is expected to play as a striker while Yves Bissouma is a central midfielder.
Adding Lingard to our ranks would then make sense. But it remains to be seen if he would continue to accept a role where he has to rotate for gametime.
The Tricky Trees, the Toffees, and the Hammers can all offer him better prospects for regular gametime in that regard. Now 29, the FIFA World Cup in Qatar would be on his mind.

If he has a good start to the season, Gareth Southgate would surely feel awkward ignoring him once again after already overlooking him for the 2020 Euros. If regular minutes at the club level is what Lingard wants, perhaps Spurs are not the best option.
