Fabrizio Romano: Arsenal could battle Tottenham in Pau Torres transfer race
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, speaking on the “Here We Go Podcast” (h/t football.london), Arsenal could enter the race for Pau Torres, who has been on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.
Apparently, Gabriel Magalhaes is linked with a move away from the Emirates. The 24-year-old has been at Arsenal for close to two years after joining from LOSC Lille Metropole in 2020.
But if he leaves, Romano believes Mikel Arteta could enter the race for his compatriot, Torres. The Villarreal centre-back has been linked with a move to Tottenham as well as Chelsea, but a third London-based club could now enter the fray.
Spurs must act fast
Spurs have already signed a centre-back this summer in Clement Lenglet. However, the Frenchman has arrived on loan from FC Barcelona and isn’t a permanent addition to Antonio Conte’s team.
Cristian Romero came in last summer and has done well whenever he was selected to play. But Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga, and Joe Rodon failed to convince.
Both Tanganga and Rodon could, as a result, leave this summer. In that case, it is important for Conte to strengthen his backline.
He plays three centre-backs in his starting XI which requires a stacked bench in order to go through the course of an entire season. With the UEFA Champions League now added to the plate, signings in defence are important.
Ben Davies did a good job filling in as a left-sided centre-back but it is time that the former Inter Milan manager sorts out a permanent solution in that area. Lenglet could be that man, but he is only here on loan.

Torres, in that regard, makes sense. Spurs would be wise to act fast and prevent other teams from creating more hurdles if they really do want to sign the 25-year-old centre-back this summer.
