Tottenham Hotspur receive welcome boost in James Maddison transfer race
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move to buy Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.
The Telegraph, meanwhile, claim that the Foxes are in a position where they may have to sell players in order to buy. In that situation, some of their best players – a list that surely includes Maddison- could leave if suitable offers arrive.
Arsenal were also seemingly interested in Maddison last summer before signing Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid. It remains to be seen if clubs flock around Leicester after the aforementioned update.
Maddison is a superstar at Leicester and arguably one of their best players. A slick dribbler, his eye for that killer pass has the ability to open u[ the best defences with ease.
Maddison to Spurs?
Whatsmore, the England international can play as a central midfielder as well. This would be particularly suitable for Tottenham, who have played with a midfield two ever since Antonio Conte has come in.
We also can’t put it past top managers wanting to switch their formations around to accommodate a player like Maddison. Now 25, he is playing in his prime years and would be an asset to most teams in Europe.
With Brendan Rodgers’ team in a position where they could have to sell their star names, perhaps this is the time for Spurs to strike while the iron is hot. Whether they choose to do so is another question.
Conte has had a busy summer already, seeing the likes of Djed Spence, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Fraser Forster, and Clement Lenglet.
