Tottenham boss Antonio Conte gives injury updates on Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Ben Davies before Rangers friendly
Speaking to the official club website between training sessions yesterday (July 21), Antonio Conte gave a fitness update on Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Ben Davies before Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season friendly at Ibrox on Saturday.
The Welsh defender suffered an injury in the 1-1 draw against Sevilla earlier this month. The former Swansea City was trusted by Antonio Conte in a back-three last season and he hopes the defender is fit come gameweek 1 of the Premier League next month.
“We are continuing to work, and work well. At this moment, no big problems, all the players are working except for Ben Davies, because he has a little problem with his ankle. I hope for the start of the season, for the first game, for him to recover.”
Conte added that Forster and Bissouma are also returning to training following their respective bouts with illness. The goalie signed on a free transfer earlier this month while the midfielder arrived from Brighton and Hove Albion.
“Yves Bissouma and Fraser Forster are now coming back to the training sessions (after illness), and everything is going okay.”
Good news all around, then. It isn’t necessary to have all our first-team players playing in the pre-season. Davies’ absence will not be felt there.
However, it would have been beneficial if got some extra minutes on the pitch and in training to warm himself up before the opening Premier League encounter. Spurs open their PL season with a game against Southampton on August 6.
Before that, the club has two more pre-season friendlies to play in. They take on Rangers tomorrow at Ibrox before travelling to Israel for a game against Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma near the end of the month.
