Juventus are out of the race for Tottenham Hotspur target Pau Torres
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have received a substantial boost in the pursuit of Villareal defender Pau Torres as Juventus are no longer in the race to land him.
Tottenham have been linked with Torres following his outstanding season with the Submarines. Following Villarreal’s march to the Champions League semi-finals last season, the 25-year-old played a crucial role in 47 games, totalling six goals and one assist.
However, Tottenham were not alone as Italian giants Juventus were also assessing possibilities to lure away the crucial defender amid De Ligt’s uncertain future. With the Dutchman joining, completing his move to Bayern this month, the Old lady targeted the Spaniard along with other transfer targets.
However, Juventus recently completed the signing of Gleison Bremer who seems to be a solid replacement for De Ligt. After the Brazilian’s signature, the Old Lady are believed to be out of the race for Torres, giving the Spurs a huge advantage in the transfer pursuit.
One position that Fabio Paratici needs to reinforce in the ongoing transfer window is at centre-back. We use a three-at-the-back system which by itself necessitates the provision of a healthy range of possibilities for the boss to choose from.
In Cristian Romero, we already have a solid centre-back but could do with another option who is equally reliable. Torres certainly has just that aura about him.
But by signing only one centre-back, it’s not like we’ve fixed our personnel issues in the defence. It was always necessary that we replace Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen with long-term alternatives due to their losses in back-to-back summers.
Additionally, Conte uses a three-centre-back formation, with left-back Ben Davies frequently serving as a third central defender. The Tottenham board should take full advantage of the boost in such a circumstance.

Under the circumstances, Torres, who has improved over the last few seasons, might be ideal for us. We saw a failed attempt to sign the 25-year-old last summer, but perhaps we can finally put that behind us by succeeding this time around.
