Juventus and Barcelona target Sergio Reguilon wants Tottenham Hotspur exit this summer

Sergio Reguilon apparently wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to Italian outlet CalcioMercatoWeb (h/t Football.London).

The Spanish defender is on the radar of Serie A giants Juventus and La Liga behemoths Barcelona. Reguilon arrived at Spurs from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020 for a fee of around £25 million.

Since then, he has had a decent time at Spurs. He found favour under Jose Mourinho and was frequently used by Antonio Conte last season.

But it seems that his time at N17 is now over. If the defender really does want to leave the club, then we must look for appropriate financial compensation.

A wise move for all parties?

After all, he still has three years left on his current contract. Juventus already have Alex Sandro and Luca Pellegrini to play down the left-hand side of their defence so unless Massimiliano Allegri thinks of Reguilon as an upgrade over them, it won’t make much sense for him to move there.

After all, he would want to play regularly in order to be selected for Spain for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. At his age, the 25-year-old cannot afford to warm the bench or he risks wasting his prime years.

Barcelona currently have no natural left-back to compete with Jordi Alba for a regular starting XI berth in Xavi Hernandez’s side. The 33-year-old can’t keep playing on forever and Reguilon could make for a neat replacement for the former Valencia man.

Spurs have no shortage of left-wing-backs going into the new season. Ryan Sessegnon’s attacking abilities may be his strongest suit, but Conte likes his wing-backs to bomb forward and help the attackers.

More Tottenham News:

Ivan Perisic is expected to play regularly down that flank, as he did in our latest pre-season friendly defeat against AS Roma, while Ben Davies can also deputise in that role.
