Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur set for ‘new discussions’ to sign AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo
Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma have planned ‘new discussions’ in order to sort out the future of Nicolo Zaniolo, according to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato via the Spurs Express (h/t Football.London).
The Italian star’s name has been linked with Spurs recently but nothing has materialised as of now. His place in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI could be under threat with the arrival of Paulo Dybala on a free transfer.
The 23-year-old playmaker usually plays as a right-sided winger for Jose Mourinho but he can be deployed as a number 10 as well as a second striker. Those who have seen him play would know all about his dribbling and passing abilities.
At his age, he can be the successor to any of our attackers given his versatility. Poland great Zbigniew Boniek recently claimed that Zaniolo has the potential to become an even better striker than Dusan Vlahovic.
Should Spurs go after Zaniolo?
However, it remains to be seen how the talk between the two teams goes. Spurs already signed an attacker this summer in the form of Richarlison while Ivan Perisic can play down both flanks.
Steven Bergwijn left for Eredivisie but there are still enough attackers in our squad to last the whole season without fearing a massive drop in quality. Despite that, adding Zaniolo would be a smart move.
He can make things happen in the final third. Antonio Conte would have gotten a closer look at the Italy international when he was the manager at Inter Milan.
Conte signed another versatile forward in Dejan Kulusevski from Serie A and he has turned out to be a hit. Fans would hope that it is the same with regards to Zaniolo – if we manage to land him this summer.
