Current Manchester United star dismisses Tottenham links this summer as “only talk”

Manchester United playmaker Christian Eriksen rubbishes Tottenham links as “only talk”

Manchester United star Christian Eriksen was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The Dane ran out his contract at Brentford after a successful five-month spell under Thomas Frank.

He then went on to join Erik ten Hag’s project at Man United earlier this summer. Speaking in an interview (h/t ESPN), Eriksen claimed that links to Spurs were “only talk” and that there were no offers made from their side.

“It was only talk. They never really came with anything so it wasn’t really a thing for me to go back to Tottenham at the time and Man United were very early on, very positive and I had good conversations.”

Spurs fans wouldn’t bother too much about how and why Eriksen’s deal to United happened. But the fact that Daniel Levy and co did not table an offer for the 30-year-old comes as a bit of a disappointment.

He was a free agent and it wasn’t like he was going to be made a regular starter. He is expected to sit out of Man United’s starting XI on most occasions as well – unless Ten Hag uses two attacking midfielders in Bruno Fernandes and Eriksen.

However, the level of experience and depth he would have been able to add to our midfield would have been a boon. Plus, Conte has the experience of working with him at Inter Milan.

Christian Eriksen could have joined Spurs.

Any wage demands made by him could then have been cushioned by the fact that Spurs are paying nothing in transfer fees to another club.

With the five substitute rule kicking on from this season, we need quality on the bench as well. With the likes of Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso linked with a move away from N17 this summer, Antonio Conte would be wise to go out and get another midfielder.
