Tottenham Hotspur eye Nikola Milenkovic as Japhet Tanganga replacement
According to local outlet Corriere Fiorentina (h/t the Express), Tottenham Hotspur could replace Japhet Tanganga with Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic.
Spurs are still looking to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season after already making six signings this summer. Clement Lenglet’s arrival offers only temporary relief as he is set to return to Barcelona next year.
Tanganga is heavily linked with a move away from N17, with AC Milan, Newcastle United, and AS Roma. Milenkovic, meanwhile, is also chased by Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Inter Milan.
It will be interesting to see where the 24-year-old will be next season. He is currently valued at a modest £12.5 million which is largely due to expire within 12 months.
Milenkovic to Spurs?
Milenkovic joined Fiorentina in 2017 and has since become an important part of La Viola‘s team. Now 24, he is slowly entering the prime years of his career.
Spurs could do with a young defender like him going into the new season. It remains to be seen if Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici formalise these ‘internal talks’ into an offer.
But if they want to do it, they must do it soon. The transfer window has less than a month to go before it closes while the new Premier League season starts this weekend.
The price tag placed on the Serbian isn’t too high and this could prove to be a smart investment on our part- granted the club takes the initiative and signs the Belgrade-born centre-back.
