Tottenham Hotspur Kion Etete’s permanent move to Championship team Cardiff City
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that striker Kion Etete will join Championship side Cardiff City ahead of the new season, as per the official club website.
The 20-year-old hasn’t had a chance to impress in the first team so far, having made no appearances for our senior side in the three years he has been here. He was, however, a regular for the development sides.
In total, he managed to score 10 goals and provide three assists in 26 games for Spurs’ U21 team. Etete spent last year on loan at Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town respectively.
Having played in the lower divisions last campaign, a move to the Championship comes as a step up for him. The Englishman moved to Spurs from Notts County’s academy in 2019.
Etete joins the Bluebirds on a three-year deal. Their manager, Steve Morison, gave his verdict on signing the 6ft 4in striker (h/t BBC):
“He has all the attributes to be a top striker. He is young and hungry. He is a player we see as a club that is ready now and can get better and better. We’d like to see how far we can take him.”
He is the third striker to depart the club this summer. 20-year-old Troy Parrott will play the next campaign at Preston North End, while teenager Dane Scarlett sealed a loan move to Portsmouth last month.
While Parrott and Scarlett still have a future at N17, Etete has perhaps understood what’s best for him. Making a name for himself in the Championship seems like the natural next step for him, and from there, he can climb his way up to a first-division European league.

The fact that Cardiff are handing him the number nine shirt at the club shows the trust they are placing in him. It remains to be seen how he performs in his debut season at Cardiff, but Spurs fans would wish him nothing but the best for his future.
