Tottenham Hotspur set to trigger £41 million buy option to make the Cristian Romero transfer permanent
According to The Telegraph, Cristian Romero is set to become a Tottenham Hotspur player as the club intends to trigger the £41 million buy option in his deal to make the transfer permanent.
The Argentine has been on loan at Spurs since his arrival to North London from Atalanta last summer. The deal the Lilywhites struck with the Serie A outfit had a clause for the permanent transfer of the 24-year-old.
Tottenham have until the end of August to make Romero their own player. The centre-back had an impressive campaign for Spurs. The Argentine was a delight for the fans as well.
Romero is an aggressive, no-nonsense defender. The Argentine showed his qualities in the previous campaign. The 24-year-old was one of our best players and helped the side to a top-four finish.
Alongside Eric Dier and Ben Davies, Romero was Antonio Conte’s preferred option in the back three. The defence looked solid when all of them were fit enough to start together.
The only letdown regarding the 24-year-old’s debut season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was his injuries. The defender was sidelined for a considerable number of games last term.
With the long campaign ahead of us, the club have dipped into the market to bring in reinforcements for the backline. Clement Lenglet has been the centre-back brought in on loan from Barcelona.
The first game of the new season against Southampton saw Conte lining up a familiar team. No new signings were present in the XI. The defensive partnership of Romero, Dier and Davies looked solid.
