Tottenham Hotspur star Giovani Lo Celso on the brink of returning to Villarreal on a season-long loan
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is set to return to Villarreal this summer on a season-long loan.
The Argentine had a fruitful short spell with the Yellow Submarine last season. Now the 26-year-old is close to joining the LaLiga outfit once again on loan. Villarreal do not have an option to buy the midfielder and Spurs will have an opportunity to accept a bid for a permanent move if it arrives in January.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star is one of the players Antonio Conte doesn’t have in his plans. Alongside three other players, the Argentine has trained separately and hasn’t taken part in Spurs’ pre-season.

Been told Spurs can interrupt loan in January in case they’ve a bid for permanent move. Of course, always up to the player. pic.twitter.com/07lIFZF2hS
Lo Celso arrived in North London in the 2019/20 season. After an impressive campaign with Real Betis, the Lilywhites decided to go for the Argentine midfielder’s signature.
But the 26-year-old has had a hard time establishing himself in the Tottenham XI. We’ve changed a few managers since his arrival. Naturally, Lo Celso has found it hard to convince everybody.
With game time hard to come by, the creative midfielder decided to make his way back to Spain. In the little time he had under Unai Emery, the Argentine became one of the Spanish manager’s most essential players.
Villarreal went on an unexpected run in the Champions League. The LaLiga side made it to the semi-finals of the competition. Lo Celso played a massive part in the Spanish side making it that far.
Conte has been seemingly backed appropriately this summer. The midfield has seen the addition of Yves Bissouma this summer. Rodrigo Bentancur was also bought in January to bolster the engine room.

There is a quality player in Lo Celso. It’s a shame we haven’t been able to see much of the Argentine’s magic in North London.
