Tanguy Ndombele arrives in Napoli for medical
According to Sky Sports, French International Tanguy Ndombele has arrived in Italy to complete his loan move to Napoli.
Ndombele was the subject of interest from the Italian side after it was made clear by Tottenham Hotspurs manager Antonio Conte that the midfielder is not part of his plans for the upcoming season.
Napoli have been quick to act on it and it seems they have succeeded in acquiring the services of the midfielder for a season-long loan with an obligation to buy.
Tottenham signed Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for a transfer fee of €62m, a club record transfer fee and there were a lot of expectations from the silky midfielder when he arrived.
However, things did not materialise as both the player and the club would have wanted. The midfielder has shown glimpses of his talent but more often than not, has been found lacking with his off-the-ball output.
With the signing of Yves Bissouma in an already stacked-up midfield consisting of Pierre Hojberg, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentacur, it would have been tough for Ndombele to secure minutes and fight for a place in the French World Cup squad.
Tanguy Ndombele, with his move, will get his chance to become a mainstay in a rebuilding Napoli side, that has seen major stars in Kalidou Koulibaly, Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne all leaving the club for different pastures this summer.
Napoli will be acquiring the services of a talented midfielder, on a bargain loan deal with an option to buy. Hence, they will have a year to assess his performance and whether they would want to make the deal permanent.
With reports suggesting that a deal is close to completion, ideally, it is the perfect move for the parties involved and it would be wise to say that a good loan move for Ndombele can also result in him contention for a place in the Spurs line-up for the next season, with his contract running till 2025.
