Spurs striker Harry Kane says Tottenham “deserved more” in 1-0 win against Wolves
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane was among the goals once again as Spurs ran out 1-0 winners against Wolves on Saturday, August 20.
The England international is scoring important goals from the get-go this season after having a slow start under Nuno Espirito Santo last time around. Kane also headed in a 96th-minute equaliser against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
Wolves posed a serious challenge to Spurs at N17 yesterday. Manager Bruno Lage arrived with a plan to attack Tottenham rather than sitting back, and it almost paid dividends in the first half.
However, they failed to make their chances. Spurs were a changed side in the second 45 minutes and they finally broke the deadlock in the 64th minute.
An under-hit cross from Son Heung-min was deflected into Kane’s path, who was unmarked and on hand to head it in. After the game, he told the official club website (h/t the Independent), that Spurs deserved more from the encounter.
“I felt we deserved more. We had more ball, we had more shots on goal, we had more chances, and at a stadium like this it’s not easy to come here and do what we did”.
Kane is a little misinformed with his stats it seems. Spurs had 49.9% possession in the game and had nine less shots than Wolves (11 as compared to their 20). However, the Lilywhites did have one more shot on target (4) than their opponents (3), as per the official PL website.
Nevertheless, it was a hard-fought point. The 29-year-old recognises the importance of the result and says that his team is proud of the result, even though there is a need to improve as the season goes on.
“So we need to be proud of what we did on the pitch, but what matters in the end is the result, and we didn’t get the result we wanted.”
