Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur have received a major boost in their pursuit of Ruslan Malinovskyi
In what will come as good news to Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur, the club has received a major boost in their pursuit of Ruslan Malinovskyi. Conte was interested in bringing the 29-year-old attacking midfielder to London.
But Spurs looked to miss out on his signature with French side Marseille closed in on an agreement. However, according to Foot Mercato (h/t The Sun), the deal with the Ligue 1 side is on the verge of a collapse.
The player is said to be unconvinced by the project at the French club. The Ukrainian international joined Atalanta in 2019 and rose to prominence through his impressive performances for the Italian side.
Malinovskyi was impressive for his side last season. The Ukrainian scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 41 appearances for the club in all competitions. An attacking midfielder, he can also play as a second striker or central midfielder.
Conte was considering bringing him as an alternative to Dejan Kulusevski on the right side of his front three. The report adds that an offer from the Lilywhites would likely include cash and player both. Left-back Sergio Reguilon could be offered to ease the deal.
Reguilon has struggled to get game-time under Conte. The arrival of Ivan Perisic and the emergence of Ryan Sessegnon has pushed the former Real Madrid defender further down the pecking order.
Spurs and Atalanta also have a very good relationship. The Italian side has previously allowed players to join the London club like Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini (On loan). Conte has Lucas Moura and Richarlison as options to deploy in place of Kulusevski.
