Harry Kane praises squad depth at Tottenham Hotspur amidst Son Heung-min frustrations
Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane has praised the team’s squad depth amidst Son Heung-min misfiring in front of goal. The England international has no doubt that the South Korean will be back to his best soon.
Son finished last season as one of Spurs’ top goal scorers. The 30-year-old shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the 2021/22 campaign.
However, the start of the new season hasn’t been the same for Son. And speaking to Sky Sports via Express after beating Southampton 2-0, Kane suggested that the South Korean might be frustrated with the start to his season.
“If you want to be a top team you need to compete in every position. That is what we have created with the squad we have now.
“Richarlison, whenever he’s had the opportunity, he’s played really well. He’s biting at the bit to play. We have a lot of games coming up. I know Sonny might be frustrated with not scoring yet but he’s an important player for us.”
Richarlison was signed from Everton this summer for big money. The Brazilian hasn’t started a game yet for the Lilywhites. However, the 25-year-old has been subbed on to play a part in the second half of the last three games and has made an impact.
Richarlison has made an impact off the bench
Against Nottingham Forest, Tottenham were under the quash for most of the second half. The Tricky Trees were putting pressure on us. But Kane’s second goal of the game calmed a few of our fans’ nerves. And Richarlison was the one who brilliantly picked out the Spurs talisman.
Kane acknowledges the importance of Son to the side. The England international trusts the South Korean to bounce back. However, the 29-year-old also understands the importance of having options on the bench.
“If we are going to achieve anything this year we need Sonny to keep doing what he is doing. He’ll pop up with goals, no doubt. But when players are not quite at it then you need players off the bench to make an impact and Richarlison has been doing that.”
Son has started all four games of the new campaign under Antonio Conte as of now. The 30-year-old gave an assist in the first game against Southampton. However, the South Korean hasn’t been quite at his best.

Tottenham’s star forward has failed to find the back of the net this season. Son has looked an unhappy figure as well when Conte has subbed him off.
However, supporters are not worried. The South Korean has the qualities to bounce back from his early campaign woes.
