Sampdoria director Carlo Osti reveals they’re close to completing move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is close to completing his move to Seria A, with Sampdoria director revealing the contracts will be signed soon, via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The Italian outfit have already reached an agreement with Spurs over a loan move for the 26-year-old. Winks is evidently someone Antonio Conte does not have in his plans for the 2022/23 campaign.
Over the years, the England international slowly established himself in the North London side. Winks came up through Tottenham’s youth ranks and was considered a great prospect.
Under Mauricio Pochettino, the 26-year-old started to get more opportunities and eventually, the midfielder carved a place for himself at Spurs. However, in Jose Mourinho’s season in charge, the England international spent most of his time on the bench.
Under Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte in the previous campaign, Winks wasn’t able to regain a regular spot in the Tottenham XI. The 26-year-old played second fiddle to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur.
Subsequently, Winks did not feature for the side in the Italian gaffer’s first pre-season in charge. And since, the midfielder has been seemingly frozen out of the squad, having not been included in the squad for the new campaign.
The North London side have made an impressive addition to the middle of the park this transfer window. Yves Bissouma signed for Spurs from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Bentancur came in during the January window and has since been a regular alongside Hojbjerg in the engine room. Conte has trusted the pair to start the 2022/23 season.

With the depth we currently possess in midfield, it would have evidently been challenging for Winks to get regular minutes. Tottenham fans are happy with the current squad and want the 26-year-old to get back to his best at Sampdoria.
