Tottenham Hotspur set to miss out on Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech as Ajax transfer nears
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move to sign Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech, but the player is apparently closing in on a return to Ajax Amsterdam, according to Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t the Express)
Antony’s move to Manchester United is getting closer to completion and that may have increased Ajax’s desire to stage a return for one of their fan-favourites in Ziyech. The Moroccan winger enjoyed a successful time in Amsterdam under manager Erik ten Hag before the player’s move to London.
At Chelsea, he’s no longer a regular pick for manager Thomas Tuchel, having only played 26 minutes of senior football this month. It was also hard to envision where he would play at Spurs.
But manager Antonio Conte could have utilised him as a central midfielder to ensure that the Lilywhites don’t look bland in possession when the ball is in midfield.
No bother for Spurs
Nevertheless, it seems that the 29-year-old has slipped through our fingers. There are still a few days to go in the transfer window before the September 1 deadline.
Any new additions would be welcome, of course, granted they add depth and quality to this team. But even if we don’t make any signings, it’s not the end of the world.
Conte and co did their business early and signed important players across the pitch. The latest at Spurs seems to be Harry Winks’ proposed move to Sampdoria going through.
