Tottenham Hotspur have revealed their full squad ahead of UCL clash vs Marseille
Tottenham Hotspur return to the Champions League after three years and they have a task ahead of themselves against Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille.
Antonio Conte guided his side to a very unlikely top-four finish last season, with the north London club clinching the spot on the last day of the last season. And the coach made it clear that more work had to be done.
Spurs have been drawn in Group D of this season’s Champions League campaign. Last season’s Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt and Sporting CP are the other two clubs along with Marseille in the group.
Conte has made six senior signings this summer and has a good depth option available to him. Rotation will be key as Tottenham have a very hectic schedule in the coming weeks.
Hugo Lloris is likely to start in goal, while Clement Lenglet could also start again at the back. He was very impressive in the previous game against Fulham. The duo Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur are expected to start in the middle of the park.
Richarlison could start again after impressing in the last match. Harry Kane has played in all the games this season, and the England captain could do with some rest. With Manchester City the next opponent, Conte could bench Kane for Wednesday’s game.
The talisman usually plays all the games for the club in a season and becomes prone to injuries. His absence is clearly felt as Tottenham suffer in the long run. It remains to be seen if the England captain is rested for the game or not.
Spurs will host Marseille for their opening game of the campaign today (Wednesday). The Lilywhites have been pitted in a favourable group and a top finish is very possible. But for that they will need to start with victory against their French opponents.
