Tottenham Hotspur duo Antonio Conte and Hugo Lloris nominated for monthly Premier League awards
Tottenham Hotspur duo Antonio Conte and Hugo Lloris have been deservingly nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Month and the Save of the Month awards for August, respectively (h/t official Spurs club website).
The Italian manager led Spurs to three wins and two draws in one of the most trying opening months of the Premier League season in recent memory. This includes wins against Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Spurs drew their games against Chelsea and West Ham United. After our recent win against Fulham, we are now third in the league table, just one point behind leaders Arsenal.
Lloris, meanwhile, has been imperious in goal for us. He kept two clean sheets last month and is a big reason why we are still unbeaten this season in all competitions.
Great start for Spurs
The 35-year-old recently penned a new deal at the club that keeps him here until the summer of 2024. Some onlookers would have questioned if he can still manage to retain his agility and fitness despite his age, but Lloris’ performances this season show that he is still a world-class goalkeeper.
Lloris’ nomination for the Save of the Month award comes for his save from Chelsea’s Kai Havertz in our 2-2 draw against the Blues at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. A video of it can be seen below:
Conte’s competition for the award comes from Graham Potter, Marco Silva (Fulham), Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), and Pep Guardiola (Manchester City). Potter’s nomination comes for his work at Brighton and Hove Albion but he has been announced as Chelsea’s new manager earlier today.
Conte won a hat-trick of Manager of the Month awards during his time at Chelsea, doing so in October, November, and December of 2016. The last time a Spurs manager won this award was in August last year, when Nuno Espirito Santo got off to a smooth start at N17.
