Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley has praised Tottenham Hotspur loanee Dane Scarlett

Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley had nothing but praise for Tottenham Hotspur loanee Dane Scarlett. The 18-year-old is on a season-long loan at the League One side.

Such praise come after the centre-forward has been in impressive form for his side. The teenager has netted four goals in the last three games for Portsmouth.

Last weekend he scored a brace to help the Blues claim all three points. Speaking to BBC Radio Solent (h/t Hampshire Live), Cowley was full of praise for the 18-year-old.

“For us, Dane [Scarlett] can be whatever he wants to be. He is a really talented boy and he has got a fantastic work ethic. Dane can be whatever he wants to be and there is no ceiling on what he can achieve. It is a privilege every morning to wake up and work with him. “

The teenager getting such high praise comes as no surprise. He is one of our most talented youngsters and it is really impressive to see him succeed in his first loan spell.

Scarlett has never played senior football before this in his life and him getting adjusted so easily shows his potential and work ethic. The words of Cowley will come as music to Antonio Conte.

The senior team is filled with attackers but a long-term successor is needed for Harry Kane. The vice-captain has given his all for Spurs throughout his glorious career, but he is not getting any younger.

At 29, the England international is at his peak. Fans will hope that he plays for as long as he can. But someone will be needed to fill in those shoes once he is not here and Scarlett could be that person.

Just 18, Scarlett has a long career ahead of him. His loan move will only help him gain experience and maybe he could be part of Conte’s squad for next season. If he continues this way, it won’t be long before he becomes a fan favourite at N17.

But for now, he must keep his head down and put in shifts week in, week out. Competition is high at Spurs right now in the centre-forward position, with the addition of Richarlison from Everton offering Tottenham long-term security in the number 9 area.
