Tottenham Hotspur trio called up for the England Under-21 squad
Tottenham Hotspur trio of Ryan Sessegnon, Djed Spence and Oliver Skipp have been called up to the England national Under-21 squad, the team announced on their Twitter account.
England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley welcomed back the players in the squad. In an interview quoted in The Athletic (Subscription Required), Carsley gave his thoughts.
In Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp and Rhian Brewster, we also welcome back experienced players at this age group who I’m sure will play an important part – on and off the field – in our preparation for next summer.
Spence joined Tottenham this summer after spending last season on loan at Nottingham Forest. The 22-year-old has only played a minute of senior-level football this season, coming off the bench against Forest.
Skipp is yet to play for Spurs this season, after picking up an injury in February. The 22-year-old has now returned back and has been included in the Young Lions squad since playing for them in a friendly in November 2021.
As for Sessegnon, the 22-year-old last played for the Under-21 side in March 2021 in the UEFA European Under-21 championship. He has been in good form this season for his club side and deserved a call-up.
The three players will want to impress with the World Cup in November. A good performance in this last international break could give them a small chance of making the senior squad for the tournament in two months.
