Antonio Conte opens up on what he told Tottenham Hotspur ace Son Heung-min before hat-trick heroics
According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has shed light on the instructions he gave Son Heung-min before his stellar appearance off the bench.
The South Korean international had endured a poor start to the season and was dropped to the bench against Leicester City on Saturday. He came on as a substitute in the second half and played a major role in Spurs securing all three points on the night.
The 13-minute treble is amongst the finest performances any Premier League player has put in off the bench, let alone at Tottenham. Conte certainly was glad at how things turned out and gave his verdict on the same.
Speaking after the game, Conte went on to reveal that he would be willing to repeat the arrangement should Son score a hat-trick in half an hour. Given that the 29-year-old took less than half that stipulated time to leave his mark, we can say that Son took being dropped to the bench personally.
“I said to him if you’re going to score three goals in 30 minutes ‘maybe we can repeat this experiment'”
The Spurs boss certainly has high regard for Son and has often made it clear in the past. While rotation is important, having a player of the 29-year-old’s ability on the bench gives Tottenham a game-changer who can make a telling impact on the field.
“To have a player of Son’s level on the bench means that in one moment I can change the game.”
Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski have largely been Tottenham’s best attackers this season. With Son now rediscovering his touch, Conte will have all the more reasons to be optimistic going forward.
The South Korean has built up a solid rapport with Kane and the duo have proven to be difficult to pin down. With both of them firing on all cylinders, life could get very exciting for Spurs fans in the coming games.
