Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min opens up on breaking his goal drought vs Leicester City
According to The Independent, Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min has opened up on breaking his duck this season with a hat-trick against Leicester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The 29-year-old was a joint winner of the Premier League golden boot last season. However, he has gotten off to a slow start this time around and went into the weekend yet to score his first goal of the campaign.
Spurs boss Antonio Conte responded to the player’s struggle by dropping him onto the bench. If anything, that has only awoken the dragon with Son going all guns blazing off the bench. His treble on the night ensured Tottenham put a struggling Leicester City to the sword.
Speaking after the game, Son went on to break the ice regarding his struggles. The 29-year-old candidly admitted that neither was he in good form this season but also that the rub of the luck has ignored him so far. Thankfully he now appears to have turned it around.
“My finishing has been poor this season. I’ve also been a little bit unlucky with an own goal, two offside goals and hitting the crossbar. I knew goals were coming and I wasn’t worried.”
There is every reason for the 29-year-old to believe his mini drought is over. The performance against the Foxes wasn’t just clinical but also full of intent. Having him in such reliable goalscoring form augurs well ahead of the North London derby against Arsenal on October 1st.
“I’m really glad the ball finally went in! I was pretty sure I was onside for the hat-trick. I’m glad I’ve been able to help the team, that is really important.”
Hopefully, the worst is now behind us and Son will now start to bang in the goals on a consistent basis. This should make Antonio Conte’s job easier given that the club is gunning for a trophy or two this season.
