Tottenham Hotspur Stadium among ‘favourites’ to host Euro 2028 matches if England wins bid
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be amongst just six English stadiums to host UEFA Euro 2028 games if the UK and Ireland beat Turkey to win the rights to host the competition.
This is according to the Times (Subscription Required), who list the 10 stadiums that are still in the running to host games in England should the UK and Ireland win the bid. These are:
Wembley, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the London Stadium (West Ham United), Villa Park (Aston Villa), Old Trafford (Manchester United), the Etihad (Manchester City), Stadium MK (MK Dons), St. James’ Park (Newcastle United), and Stadium of Light (Sunderland).
Everton’s planned Bramley Moore Dock ground is also in contention while Southampton’s St Mary’s could still qualify for the list if hospitality facilities receive an upgrade. Tottenham’s stadium is a state-of-the-art facility that opened on 3 April 2019.
A proud moment
It replaced the White Hart Lane as Tottenham’s home ground and is also capable of hosting non-football events, such as concerts and NFL matches. Teams like Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have played their NFL matches at the stadium in the recent past.
It is no surprise that the elite stadium is in the running to host a few games in the 2028 edition of the UEFA European Championship. The stadium has a capacity of 62,850 people and is among the ‘favourites‘ to make the cut when the list is narrowed from 10 to seven or six by UEFA.
The last time England hosted the competition was in the 1996 edition, where the White Hart Lane did not make the cut in the list of venues. The Three Lions’ best finish in the tournament came in the 2020 edition (held in 2021), when they lost to Italy in the final on penalties.

Turkey, however, could still spoil the UK and Ireland’s plans to host the tournament in 2028 despite also being in contention with Italy to host the 2032 edition.
