Opportunity for Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United to sign Daichi Kamada from Frankfurt in 2023
According to German outlet Kicker, Eintracht Frankfurt face having to put complex clauses in the contract of Daichi Kamada, referred to as ‘contract poker’, due to which, according to the Express, the door remains ajar for Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United to sign him in 2023.
The two Premier League teams were keen to sign the Japan international in the summer, with Portuguese team SL Benfica also in the mix. However, no deal materialised and Kamada stayed to play in his sixth season since being registered on the Bundesliga club’s books back in 2017.
Spurs went on to sign Richarlison from Everton while the Whites got themselves Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg. However, the opportunity to explore a deal for Kamada could prove to be too tempting to turn down next year.
Kamada, who has six goals in 19 appearances for the Japan national team, has started the season in fine form. The former Sagan Tosu star has scored six goals and assisted thrice in 10 games across all competitions.
What should Spurs do?
Frankfurt won the UEFA Europa League last season after beating Rangers in the final. And hence, it is no surprise that Kamada got attention from foreign clubs, given his five goals and one assist in 13 UEL appearances.
The attacking midfielder is 26 years old and arguably in the prime years of his career. James Maddison of Leicester City, who plays in a similar number 10 position, also got attention from Spurs in the summer.
However, if given the chance, it would make sense to pursue Kamada, especially from a financial point of view in case his contract situation remains unsolved. Maddison, meanwhile, has a contract that expires in the summer of 2024.
