“Everyone’s talking about Haaland”- Tottenham star says he is focussing on himself after superb start

Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane focussed on himself despite Erling Haaland hype

Harry Kane has six goals in his first seven Premier League appearances for Tottenham Hotspur this season. Statistically speaking, he has never had a better goal-scoring start to a league campaign than this.

The only time he matched that tally in the past was in the 2017/18 and the 2020/21 campaigns, when he had six goals after his first seven league matches. The three-time PL Golden Boot winner, hence, is right to be enjoying this start to the season.

Erling Haaland signed for Manchester City this summer from Borussia Dortmund in a much-hyped 64million transfer. Since then, the Norway international has taken to English football like fish to water.

He has scored 14 times in 10 games across all competitions. He is miles ahead of anyone in this year’s Golden Boot race with 11 goals in the league – five more than Kane who is tied in second position.

A one-sided Golden Boot race?

And while the 29-year-old England international understands the hype behind Haaland, he says that he is a person that likes to focus on himself. Kane said in an interview (h/t the Express):

“Everyone’s talking about Haaland because he’s had an incredible start to the season, so rightly so. As you know me, I don’t focus on too many other people, I focus on myself and what I can do.”

Kane also made a note about his team’s start to the season. The Lilywhites are third in the league, unbeaten with 17 points – the same as Manchester City, who lead on goal difference. Arsenal, with 18 points, are the early league leaders.

“We’ve had a good start to the season with Spurs, we probably haven’t played our best football but that’s a good sign to be where we are knowing we can improve. And it’s probably one of the best starts I’ve had in the Premier League.”

Kane and Haaland were primed to come face-to-face on September 10 at the Etihad but the PL fixture, like the other nine games that weekend, was postponed for a later date. The revised schedule for gameweek 7 is yet to be announced.

As for Kane, he has won the Golden Boot thrice. It’s an award that won’t excite him as much as a team trophy would with Spurs.
