Spurs Academy News: Pele Arganese-McDermott signs pro contract with Tottenham Hotspur

Pele Arganese-McDermott is a young centre-back that went full-time with the U18s at Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The teenager has now signed his first professional contract at the club, as per the official club website.

He was previously present in the youth ranks of Luton Town. He is a tall defender that usually plays as a centre-half but can deputise in other roles as well.

It was a wise ploy by Spurs to get him in on a scholarship deal. This way, he was on our books and we didn’t have to go through much hassle to get him to sign a pro deal with the club.

There isn’t much known about the young defender as of now but he would want to be one of the few centre-backs that have come through Spurs’ youth academy and made themselves a first-team regular.

While the legendary Sol Campbell and Ledley King would be the gold standard, a development curve such as that of Japhet Tanganga wouldn’t be shabby as well. He may have had just one appearance for us this season, but the versatile defender’s achievements are often understated.

Just to make it through the academy and make yourself a player in contention to play for the senior under managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte is an achievement in itself.

Spurs’ U18 team, meanwhile, have played four games in the U18 Premier League this season, where they won and lost two matches each. Pele did not make the starting line-up on any of those occasions.

However, he would now hope that a new pro deal is the catalyst needed for him to vie for playing time with the likes of U18 England international Alfie Dorrington in defence.
