International watch: Tottenham star Richarlison impresses for Brazil while Harry Kane and Eric Dier fall flat with England
It was a mixed night for Tottenham Hotspur stars on the international stage as they experienced both extasy and heartbreak in equal measure.
Summer signing Richarlison has quickly established himself as a popular figure and he did his reputation no harm with a well taken brace for Brazil against Ghana. A Selecao won 3-0 on the night and will go into the FIFA World Cup in Qatar confident about their chances of making an impact.
The 25-year-old is yet to emerge as a prolific goalscorer for Spurs in the league but has impressed both on the continental stage and also for Brazil. If he keeps going, Antonio Conte might have no choice but to start the striker upfront alongside Harry Kane.
Brazil next face Tunisia on Tuesday and it remains to be seen if Tite will continue playing Richarlison upfront. Should the Spurs star put in another excellent performance, he can more or less guarantee his seat on the plane to Qatar this year.
Harry Kane is also a dead certainty to make the trip to Qatar but he endured a night to forget with England. The Three Lions skipper drew a blank on the night as Gareth Southgate’s side fell 1-0 to Italy at the San Siro.
The loss relegates England from the top tier of the UEFA Nations League and is a blow to the morale of a side that has now not scored from open play in five matches. Eric Dier also started for his country on the night but was powerless to prevent Giacomo Raspadori from giving the Azzurri all three points.
All in all, it has been a mixed set of results for Spurs stars. Hopefully, they will all return to Hotspur Way without picking up any unwarranted injuries. With a long hard season ahead of us, we can do with any unpleasant surprises.

As for Richy, it’s good that he has scored this brace at a time when it would make the biggest impression on Tite – just before he picks his 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
