Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane scores but England fail to beat Germany in 3-3 draw
Tottenham Hotspur stars Harry Kane and Eric Dier started for England against Germany in their final UEFA Nations League group match.
The Three Lions have already been relegated from their Nations League group but there was pride to play for against the Germans in their last match before the FIFA World Cup 2022.
England went behind by two goals after second-half goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Kai Havertz put Germany in the driving seat. Dier had a fairly decent game while Harry Maguire was the culprit for the opener when he tripped Jamal Musiala inside the box.
However, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount pulled two goals back and pulled England back with 15 minutes to play on the clock. Then came Kane’s moment, when Jude Bellingham won a penalty.
Kane scores, Dier impressive
The Spurs star was faultless from the spot and hit an unstoppable penalty to make it 3-2 in the 83rd minute. However, Nick Pope was poor with the way he handled Serge Gnabry’s shot, spilling it into Havertz’s path who made the score 3-3 in the 87th minute.
England have had a horrific Nations League group stage campaign, failing to win any game and ending bottom of their group after six games. At least Spurs know that Dier and Kane return from national duty fit and ready for the north London derby.
Spurs take on Arsenal at the Emirates on October 1 in what could be an important game in the title race. It is still early days for one game to make such a big impact.

However, momentum is a big thing and a demoralising loss or an inspirational win in such a derby can wreck or ignite a title charge. Spurs are 3rd, level on points with Manchester City in the league table, with Arsenal on top – one point ahead of the duo after seven games.
