Antonio Conte admits injury “worry” for Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura after latest setback
Speaking in his post-match interview after Tottenham Hotspur’s loss to Arsenal in the north London derby on Saturday, manager Antonio Conte admitted that he is worried about Lucas Moura’s fitness.
The Brazil international was not spotted in Spurs’ matchday squad for the eighth game in a row, majorly because of a calf injury. As it turns out, he has suffered a recent setback during his road to recovery after returning from the international break, as per Football.London.
Speaking after the 3-1 loss against the Gunners, Conte told SpursPlay (h/t Football.London):
“We have to move on and we have to hope we don’t have any more injuries. Today Kulusevski was out, Moura I’m really worried because he’s really far to recover. When you have injuries up front then you are in a bit of trouble.”
Dejan Kulusevski was left out of the starting XI after suffering a fitness issue following his national duty with Sweden, while Wales international Ben Davies is also recovering. Conte would hope that the trio recovers fast and there aren’t most issues after this.
The games will come thick and fast now. The game at the Emirates was the first of nine matches that we have to play in October, with an important game against Eintracht Frankfurt up next on Tuesday night.
When the games are coming at such a break-neck pace, it is important to have good depth in the squad. If we overlook the negatives surrounding the injury situation right now, then one can appreciate the work that Fabio Paratici and Danie Levy did in the transfer market this summer.
Clement Lenglet’s arrival on loan from Barcelona has increased depth at the back so we can cushion Davies’ absence to some extent. Richarlison’s addition up front, meanwhile, has been game-changing.
