Djed Spence’s sister takes sly dig at Tottenham Hotspur team selection after Arsenal loss

Djed Spence’s sister Karla Spence posted a three-worded message, “could’ve been different”, after Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-1 to Arsenal in the north London derby on Saturday (h/t Express).

The message was written alongside a shared post of the full-time result from Spurs’ official Instagram account. It was accompanied by a shrugging and a moon-face emoji, which implies that she was referring to her brother’s situation at the club.

Spence was on the bench for the sixth time this season when he was named in the matchday squad against Arsenal. He has just one minute of competitive football under his belt for Spurs, which came in a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest, where he was on loan last season.

Spence is behind Emerson Royal and arguably Matt Doherty in the right-back pecking order at his new club. The Brazil international, in fact, was one of the culprits behind Spurs’ humiliating loss at the Emirates.

No point in stirring controversy

Spurs were trailing 2-1 when the former Barcelona defender got himself sent off in the 62nd minute. The next half-hour was one-sided traffic.

From a neutral perspective, not a lot of good can come from posts like these. Had Spence started, Spurs could have won, drawn, or lost by an even bigger margin – that is not for anyone to predict.

One can agree, however, that Conte should give the England U21 international more minutes on the pitch. With FA Cup and Carabao Cup fixtures awaiting the team in the near future, we can expect the former Middlesbrough man to get a few appearances under his belt.
