Antonio Conte hints that Tottenham Hotspur may need more new signings
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has hinted that his side may need to bring in more players either in January or next summer.
Speaking after the goalless draw against Eintracht Frankfurt last Tuesday, as quoted in Football. London, the Italian talked about a host of things, among them being transfers.
“We know this situation with the club and the club knows very well we need time and patience, to try to go step by step. I spoke about the transfer market, that we needed more transfer markets to reach a good level. We know this. At the same time we want to be competitive, to try to do everything.”
This summer was unlike any summer before for the Spurs fans. Their club went into the market intending to buy and added six senior players to the squad with the seventh Destiny Udogie joining next summer.
Conte’s men got off to a very good start to the new season, both in the league and in Europe. But one could say that the results were very unconvincing.
It seemed like the team was just edging past their opponents to get the points. Defeats against Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal only highlighted these problems.
While the coach has almost two players for every position, the starting line-ups every week are identical. Some of the new signings are only used, while others are yet to play or have played very little.
Conte seems to prefer a strong line-up, irrespective of the opponent. While rotating the players may seem like a risk to the coach, he cannot ask for more players when it is highly likely he will use them very less.
