Clement Lenglet explains what Tottenham Hotspur need to do to qualify for the Champions League knockouts
Tottenham Hotspur defender Clement Lenglet believes his side ‘have to win’ both their next games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Champions League to make it out of the group.
Spurs played a goalless draw against Eintracht Frankfurt and now sit second in their group with four points after having played three games of the six.
Now, Lenglet while speaking to SPURSPLAY (h/t Football. London), believes that his side will need to win both their next home games to have a chance at qualifying for the Round of 16.
“If we are to going to do it automatic, we have to win these two games to be really close to the Round of 16, so the objective is really clear. We have to play good games, we have to recover well because it was a really tough game today and after we have to prepare the game against this team at home to be better and score a goal.”
It does look like the qualification for the next round will go down to the wire. Sporting Lisbon lead the group with six points, while Spurs and Frankfurt are second and third respectively with four points.
French side Marseille sit at the bottom with three points. Mathematically, all four sides have a shot at finishing top two in the group, making it one of the most exciting groups to watch out for.
Lenglet, who joined the north London club on loan this summer from Barcelona, has started to establish himself in the team. The centre-back has started the last four games for the club in all competitions.
The centre-back also played 78 minutes against the Bundesliga outfit in their last outing. He was only substituted as he had picked up a yellow card a few minutes earlier and was walking on a thin line from getting suspended.

Spurs will have the home advantage for their next two Champions League games. The north London club will host Frankfurt on October 12 and then will welcome Sporting on October 26. With the home crowd behind, fans will hope for victories in both games.
